Our Approach |
 |
|
Our greatest strengths are our people and our technology, and we are committed to having the best of both.
Our Structure In 1971, PIMCO consisted of three management professionals. Over the years we have grown to more than 1,200 employees, including 425 investment professionals as of September 30, 2009.
PIMCO was founded on the philosophy that hard work, high standards of excellence and the desire to be the best were critical to our success. Our ability to grow and maintain the high level of performance and service for which we are known derives from the stability and experience of our employees.
Our flat and focused management structure creates a shallow hierarchy enabling quick responses to an ever-changing external environment.
The three key areas of the organization are:
- Portfolio Management
- Account Management
- Business Management
"We took the three anchors of the business and determined that without each piece working well, the organization would not prosper," states James Muzzy, Managing Director and founding partner. |

The Role of Portfolio Management PIMCO's portfolio group works on a team or consensus basis to ensure that all accounts with similar objectives will have similar structures. The group's structure can best be described as a hub and spoke system. The senior Generalist Portfolio Managers make up the hub and receive input from specialists in each market sector. These sector specialists relay timely information, provide strategic ideas, trading strategies and assist with execution. |
 |
 |
The Role of Account Management Account Managers are primarily responsible for maintaining the client relationship and monitoring investment strategies to be sure they comply with client objectives. This monitoring process includes translating client objectives into portfolio guidelines, reviewing account activity for consistency with guidelines, and keeping clients well informed about PIMCO's strategy and outlook. Account Managers also have an important role in providing input to the firm's investment forecasts and contributing to product and development efforts. |
