About the Scholarship

Founded in 2021, PIMCO’s Future Leaders Scholarship (FLS) began with a commitment of $1 million total, but has since expanded up to $2 million, amounting to about $30,000 per recipient. Current undergraduate sophomores, current or future (Fall 2024) master’s degree students, and current doctoral students are invited to apply.

FLS is designed for students from underrepresented communities who have an interest in investment management and wish to pursue a career in finance by way of continued education. Scholarships will be awarded to candidates who have the potential to excel as leaders and exhibit PIMCO’s CORE values of collaboration, openness, responsibility, and excellence.

Future Leaders Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a current United States (U.S.) Citizen or Permanent Resident

    Meet one or more of the following:

    • Self-identify as Black, African, or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
    • First generation college student
    • Pell grant eligible
    • Attend an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or Hispanic Serving Institution (HIS)

  • In good academic standing as of the application deadline:

    • Minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent
    • Pursuing a relevant degree or career in financial services or an adjacent industry

  • Undergraduate-specific criteria:

    • Currently an enrolled sophomore in an accredited U.S. college or university
    • Graduating between December 2025 – June 2026
    • Plan to enroll in a fulltime undergraduate study at an U.S. accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year

  • Graduate-specific criteria:

    • Current or future (Fall 2024) master’s students enrolled in a U.S. institution
    • Doctoral students currently enrolled in a U.S. institution
    • Graduating between December 2025 – June 2026
    • Proof of admittance & intention will be required

Application & Program Information


Application Timeline:
Applications open February 12, 2024 and close March 21, 2024.

Interview Timelines:
All student interviews will be conducted late April 2024 to mid-May 2024.

Virtual Summit
As part of the scholarship, recipients will be invited to attend a celebratory virtual summit in May 2024.
